The story behind the story

Although Silence is Broken has a clear cut protagonist, the antagonist is a bit of a mystery. The story is written in the first person view. Each character is recording the days events. Each of them wants their readers to know the motives behind their behavior.

Beginning with Khloe, who is a businesswoman. Xavier is a businessman you would be leery to deal with. Tamera is coping with her feelings of abandonment. Kiera, the party girl, thought she was on top of things.

This is just the drama within friendships. Each character has drama within their family unit. Family secrets are coming to an head. The mystery of the book, solve the identity of the person in Captured by the Game. Someone is all caught up and tied up, who is it? Are they eventually rescued or will they die? Will the captors be discovered?

Love makes strange bedfellows

A woman encounters a man, likes him. Parents disapprove. Woman becomes secretly engaged, secretly weds him.

Woman has shrouded sister who secretly likes her man. Shrouded sister is jealous and plots her entrance onto the grand stage.

Shrouded sister has her own sister, who happens to be the best friend of the one already on the stage. Shrouded sister despises her own sister, and flaunts her new found fortune.

Best friend was the lover of the man, but opted for another who was more influential, more powerful. To her surprise, the man secretly married her best friend. Revenge is all she thinks about.

The man has a secret all his own. He is a cold-blooded killer, intent on keeping what is his and letting no one or nothing get in the way. Khloe is his, and her parents are in his way.

The Page 99 Test

A glimpse into Silence is Broken, read the prelude.

 CAPTURED BY THE GAME.

I cannot see. I have been straining my eyes, trying to dissect the darkness in the hopes of discovering a slither of light. I have not found any. I cannot move, not even shift my posterior in this hard rock chair. I am covered in rope from my neck down to my feet. I am not simply tied down, I am hog-tied! my neck and feet seem to be connected by a single rope. Every time I move the line tightens and digs into my skin, burning like the dickens. My neck feels as if it is going to snap. My knees feel as if they are about to pop out of their sockets. Screaming for help only brings about more pain, my tongue lies against the driest of cloths.

I guess I should be thankful for what I do get, two meals and two glasses of water a day. Let me stop lying to myself, I am not thankful. I am in this chair all day long. I am forced to relieve myself right where I sit, downright embarrassing. They have not told me what this is about. They don't say anything. They just shove spoonful and spoonful of food in my mouth. I have no idea of the time or the day, the last day I remember was October 10th.

The door opens. With it comes the coolest of breezes, the temperature must be in the 40s. Winter will be here soon. I am cold because they have taken all of my clothes. They have stripped me bare including my shoes and socks. I do not smell any food, what I do smell is cologne, very loud and pungent cologne. Do not know anyone who wears that fragrance. Not sure of who they are, they are not the regulars. It is someone new. New can be a good thing, maybe I can get some answers. Who am I kidding, new is not good at all. New means a change has arrived or is on the way real soon.

"What do you want with me?"

"Personally I don't want anything from you. The people who hired me, they want something."

"They want what? Why am I here?"

"You are here because they want to remind you of all the dirty deeds you have done."

"This does not sound good at all."

"No it does not."

Sad, and true...

This sneaker was found by a fisherman on a South Jersey beach. The sad part of the story is that a skeletal foot was found, still inside the sneaker.

A Philadelphia family has been told that it is highly likely that this sneaker belongs to their missing family member, Franchesca Alvarado. Ms. Alvarado was last seen on a date in Atlantic City in March 2012. Her family is currently preparing a memorial service.

It is a sad way to die. Sad, in that no one knows who is the owner of the shoe. No one knows what happened to the person. No one knows if an accident occurred or if a crime was committed. No one knows the whereabouts of the rest of the remains.

In the meantime, a family has ended their suspenseful wait. R.I.P. Franchesca Alvarado.

The Workers

The characters in Silence is Broken are college educated and members of the working class. Each one possess a level head for business, but academics did not prepare them for human frailty and its consequences.

As a babe,

helpless, shivering in the cold,
needing warmth, a home, love,
and you provided.

As a child,

I left you every day, to go to school,
to make friends,
except, no one liked me.

 And you were gone.

Leaving me to face the world,

the cold world, among strangers,
who did not understand,
that I was just like them.

Now I am an adult,

ready to conquer,
except I still need help,
and you are back,

Will you stay this time?

The many uses of Facebook

Facebook started out as a virtual meeting place for college students, and then it evolved to a virtual meeting place of the world. Today I learned another use of Facebook, and it is not what Mark Zuckerberg had in mind.

CNN Money is reporting that some lenders have decided to scrutinize the applications coming their way more intensely. They are using your Facebook page and surveying your Facebook friends to determine your credit score.

This is scary. Many of us, including businesses and those in the literary profession, use Facebook as an advertising platform. God forbid if we decide to apply for a loan, those Facebook friends could determine if you are approved.

Personally, I have Facebook friends who live on the other side of the world. I have never met these people. I only have virtual contact with them, and yet they can influence my lender's choice to approve my loan?

Am I the only one who sees this as a potential storyline of a intriguing and suspenseful short story or novel?

Organizing Promotion

I spent the day researching promotional opportunities in my area. There aren't very many for independent publishers. Philadelphia is a town who prefer "professionalism," meaning if you do not have a contract with a well-known publishing house you get no media attention. Guess I have to beat the path and generate my own.

who looks for diamonds in the sky,

she finds it and then loses it,

secretly she plots revenge.

The boy comes from a powerful family,

suppresses his wrath by marrying another,

ignoring her parent’s wishes,

secretly boy is an elusive killer who wants what he wants.

Xavier wants Khloe.

Khloe realizes mistake, looks for her parents,

not knowing, that,

Xavier is last person to see her parents alive…
